East Coast Suggestions?

My wife and I are looking to get away for the second week of September, and can't decide where the best place to go at that time is on the upper east coast. We are thinking, Maryland, Cape Cod, or Maine. We know we would like to be directly on the ocean, now we just have to narrow down north or south!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Maine....you might get lucky and start to see some color...
  • How about Presque Isle. My idea of relaxing isn't traveling via Interstates LOL
  • Dunno your preference of sites or sights, but we've enjoyed stays in Mystic CT, Cape Cod and Salem MA. All little towns with great local eateries and history nearby. Beautiful waterfront views at some of the places we stayed. sites on some were a little rustic - but worth the view.

Found my Google Map from our 2010 Trip if you want to take a peek:

  • The Ocean City, MD/Rehobeth Beach, DE area is nice. We have never stayed at any of the campgrounds, but the AREA has pretty much everything. If you want quiet, check the areas between the two. If you want a little actions, Rehobeth; if you want lots, Ocean City.

Also Assateague and Chincoteague are in that same area for some day trips.
  • Thank you. By the way, we are just looking to take a break from work and relax ocean side a bit, and take in some sites as well.
  • Pick out several possibilities from a map and input the nearby town names into http://www.tripadvisor.com/. It will give you an idea of things to see and do.

Other than that we cannot help you without knowing what you like to see and do.
    History museums?
    Amusement parks?
    Boardwalks?
  • Do a Google search for `______ tourism' and put the area, state, town or whatever in the blank space and read what the experts have to say. This may spark an idea.
