I wouldn't blame them for closing Hunting for camping. The island has been hit hard by storms for longer than the three years you mention. Lost a bunch of houses and rental cabins in years past. The amount of money already spent that now has to be spent again is staggering. They will have to build a new dune system to keep the CG from flooding each time a significant storm comes.
We spent a week at Hunting a few weeks ago and the campground turns into a mosquito infested swamp after a heavy rain. Sad as it was our favorite state park for beach camping.
