- 4runnerguyExplorerIIRC, Susie Creek flows NNE out of the Carlin area. Wild Horse Res. is 60 miles north of Elko. If Susie Creek is your main goal, you might also consider South Fork Res. SE of Elko, a little closer to amenities if you want. Wild Horse has a remote beauty to it.
But, there are birds all over that area. Of course it can be quite dependent on the time of year and what year it is. I went out to NV as a geologist for years and we would notice the definite ebb and flow of various species from year to year. One year, we couldn't help but hit a jackrabbit or two every day on the highway. The next year, we virtually saw none. Some years the crickets were horrendous, the next year, none. Lots of back roads to explore everywhere, although once one gets near any kind of flowing water, you'll find most of that property is private. Leave the gates in the same way you find them. - BillinwoodlandExplorer

Are you looking for sage grouse? - nevadanickExplorerStay at Wildhorse and then head out Gold Creek, you can go to Jarbidge and into Idaho if you want. Lots of places to go on your quad.
