Thanks, that is a wonderful idea. We owned many a boat so it would be an easy thing for us to do and enjoy the heck out of it also.

Hank, thanks for that extra info about the long drive down to the keys. It would be a very long day with wanting to hang out for a lot of hours and you are right, we could venture a bit down the keys but don't have to go the whole route.
One thing after a long drive to our destination, extra long drives don't sound so appealing :)

Miami Everglades is not far from the ocean. There are also places in the keys where you can fish. Key West, it's a long drive. Could be looking at 3-4 hours from here. Depends on traffic and there are lots of places where it's one lane. If someone decides they want to drive slow you're stuck. An accident can shut down everything. Not saying you shouldn't make the trip, just be aware it's an all day, long day adventure. You can also take a drive into the upper keys and check them. Good snorkeling in Key Largo. The reefs are located in a national marine preserve.

We love the Everglades and do a lot of back country camping using our kayaks or canoe.
If you are thinking of the southern end, Miami Everglades camp ground has every thing you want and is not too far from the entrance.
Prior to entering there is a place that gives tour boat rides.
Just a short distance after entering the park make sure to walk the Anhinga Trail.

I looked up the park you are at and it seems very nice. reasonable prices also.

It said about 10 miles away from everglades park and that is what we do want to see one time and we do want an air boat ride and a some touristy stuff :)

One thing tho, is a beach not to far to drive from the cg? hubby loves to surf fish and wondering if that would be a drive within reason to spend the day at a beach and he can fish?

Your info is what I needed. I tried calling Key Largo Kampground but they did not have a site big enough for us and couldn't book...everything else is slap solid booked--always happens when you try to get some locations on very short notice.

also from your cg, how far would Key West be to drive? like 2 hrs down from you? just wondering if that could be a day trip down for us.
