Falls Lake State Park, NC

Hey All,

Anyone have any camping feedback on Falls Lake St Pk in North Carolina?
Looks like a nice park. From what I understand they lock a gate at night so nobody can enter or leave? Not sure if I'm comfortable with that. Is crime an issue at night? What if you have a medical emergency?

Looks like they have a few campground areas in the park, any recommendations for a 5th wheel friendly loop?

Thanks!
  • looked it up on the net nice lake, might give it a try for crappie fishing middle march. heres another stump hole N.C
  • Many NC State Parks lock the gates at night. There are campground hosts that have keys and in case of emergency will open up the gates. You can also call park rangers that often cruise the grounds. We’ve never had a security problem at any of the state park campgrounds.
  • Only been there once. We did not explore too much as it was a weekend with friends. I saw plenty of sites my 31 ft fifth wheel would fit in walking around the area we were in. Some right on the lake. I think there are several campgrounds there. The state park website has pictures of sites if you go to reserve one.

  • We were camp hosts at one rather isolated COE campground, and had to lock the gates at 9:00 every night. It was a popular fishing area, and we didn't need unknown people wandering around the campground in the wee hours. It was not unusual to find vehicles parked outside the gate when we opened at 6:00 each morning. So, locked gates are not an exception at all. Just makes us feel a bit more secure.
  • Falls Lake is very nice. Many campgrounds to choose from. I recommend Holly Point Loop 2. Nice level sites near the lake with a swim beach.

Rolling View is nice however there is a down hill walk to get to the lake.
  • kerr lake state park is one of our favorites. henderson point cg is our first choice. also stayed in satterwhite. we have 4 weekends from april to august booked. do yourself a favor and book several months out and get a waterfront site. large number available even for longer rigs. ours is 37ft TT previous was 33ft. there are parking areas for boat trailers and state park boat ramps in the campgrounds which is nice and convenient. the site we have booked those 4 weekends is a double site large enough to park our pontoon boat and truck on as well as our TT and f250. we live about 2 hours south of the park. wife will drive the truck and pontoon and i tow the TT.
