Before buying our first, & only, rig we did the CG research with SP & NP CGs in mind. With that we tried to limit ourselves to 32' max. Well, that did not quite work out. We wound up with a true length of <36'.
Like most have said, with 40' you will be severely restricted on what is available in SPs & NPs. COE CGs are usually pretty good as are SPs that used to be COEs. Even at <36' we are often hanging off the back of the pad & sometimes not able to use rear stabilisers, not that it bothers us to have a little shake.
