With a 40' RV, it isn't so much that you can't fit, but that you will have a limited number of sites large enough, or will be limited to the "parking lot" type sites. The larger you are, the more limited the availability, and, if traveling without reservations, the earlier you will need to arrive. Even with my 17' trailer, I ended up in a site (at Burney Falls State Park in CA) that I had to park my tow vehicle off site.
