Many of the Southern Michigan parks within a few hours of Detroit, Chicago are like this. Built to stack in as many RV from the urban centers as possible.
Travel North of M55 and the parks really change. Generally the spots are bigger and on spot doesn't start where the other ends, there's a generous buffer between.
Traveling distance is hard especially leaving after a 16 hour day at work, but the Northern parks are so worth the reward. Especially ones not near a major interstate like Ludington. US31 is a six barrel expressway dumping urban areas right into that park.
