Finding fresh water.

We had a discussion about carrying water at our campfire Saturday night. All of us that have traveled full and empty reported never having seen a difference in fuel mileage. My TH TT carries 100 gallons of fresh water and my mileage is consistent empty or full.

Wow thanks for all the replies. We will probably just do that. Fill up at home. Whats a few extra dollars for the security of our own water. Some people with our model trailer have had issues with the fresh water tank support bending, but we have travelled some distance with ours full with no issues so will likely just fill up at home. I emailed some parks nearby to see if they allowed filling up for a small fee. One park wanted $1 a gallon! I can fill it with Perrier for that price. We have a couple of 6 gallon jugs we will fill and throw in the back of the truck too. We are no where near our tow limit so weight not an issue.

The difference/cost will be too small to measure or quantify.

We always pull to the Michigan Nascar race with a full tank of water. We've hauled much further than that with a full tank too. It comes from our home so we know the source. On the trip I just returned from in Utah, I pulled up to a house where a couple was outside and asked if I could fill up my fresh water and they said sure. No problem.

And depending on the size of the tank, driving with it full or empty will not make that much of a difference in fuel mileage if that's what you are worried about. For instance, our 30 gallons at around 260lbs will not make much difference. If you are towing and you are your limits, then that's another issue.

I would think that would depend on the size of the fresh water tank. Ours is 30 gallons and we would go through that in a weekend with 3 of us. That's using it for showers, toilet and washing dishes (maybe a pot or pan here and there).

Don't fill the tank. It isn't like you're staying a week. That will take care of the bathroom. For drinking water and coffee and cooking, buy a few gallon jugs of drinking water at your local grocery store. They're cheap.
