First choice reservations. Scam???

Just saw this today while attempting to make some reservations.

http://firstchoicereservations.com/

It says that for a fee they will make your reservations for you. I really hope this is not true. They are not selling reservations so it might not be illegal. But really would put us individuals at a disadvantage. When you call you get a recording asking for your call back info. I am sure that at some point your credit card info would be asked for. I'm just curious. Has anyone used this service? Personally I would be afraid to deal with them.

I did call Reserve American just to let them know that this is happening. They are aware of this and they are checking into it.

  • It isn't terrible hard for a good programmer to write a program to flood the Reserve America / Recreation.gov web site with thousands of requests for a site, group of sites.

I doubt that they are buying up a bunch of sites and reselling them. That would show up quickly if people started changing the name of the primary camper. When we got to Zion NP last Nov they wanted my drivers license to verify my name matched the name on the reservation.

I've seen an increase in checking the reservation name against an id in recent months.

I would not be surprised if we start having to enter one of those "I am not a bot" scrambled puzzle things soon.

When folks start complaining on this site about that - remind them why.
  • It looks like a business that would help the people that don't want to mess with the Reserve America process. I just wonder if their "optimized process" is any quicker than the rest of us having our finger on the "go" button at exactly the right time. They don't make any guarantees about your first choice and date.
  • Hopefully their 'in' isn't snapping up all the sites in all the popular campgrounds for all the popular weekends and then selling them.
  • It's not a scam. They were at the Quartzsite RV show.

For $90, they will get you the spot you want at a State/ Federal Park.

Didn't look at the details because It put a knot in my stomach. It's already difficult enough to get a spot.

Not sure of the monetary details, but the big sign behind the very unfriendly guy said $90. Not sure if that's $90 a year, and you have to sign a contract, or what.

They must have an " in " somehow.

Edit... Just checked it out. Apparently that $90 they had advertised at the show was a little more expensive. Looks like they have 2 options.. A Silver Plan for $49 A NIGHT, and a Gold Plan for $79 A NIGHT!:S
  • Sounds like a scam to me !!! We make our own reservations, besides that's part of the fun for us. I know some State parks use an outside contractor, to make reservations, but again you have to call the park to get their info. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
