We went to Yellowstone/Tetons last August, and it is a great time to go.
We wanted to stay 3 days in Fishing Bridge and 3 days in Tetons , but disappointed that FB was not available for us (40ft 5th wheel) since they only have a handful of "big rig" sites. So we ended up staying the entire time at Coulter Bay in Tetons. On one of our day tips, we drove through FB campground...and agree, Walmart with hookups!! We were SO GLAD there were no sites available!! Coulter was SO MUCH better!! Yes, it's a long way to the north end of Yellowstone, but well worth the extra driving. Longest day trip was to the north attractions...left at 7am and got back to camp at 9pm. But a GREAT DAY!!
Coulter is also VERY convenient to Jackson Hole if that's on your wishlist. Very cool town!!
There's also Headwaters at Flagg Ranch. It's just a couple miles south of the S Entrance to Yellowstone. http://www.gtlc.com/lodges/headwaters-lodge-at-flagg-ranch
Good luck!!
