Fishing Bridge Yellowstone

Going to Yellowstone next summer (late August early Sept)
Everything I read says fishing bridge is the only park with full hookups and it's centrally located.
I want the hookups
I also read you are sandwiched in with a lot of RV's with no picnic table etc.
Is there any section of the park that are better than others that if I make reservations for if I book early?

  • We stayed at Fishing Bridge and also Grizzly RV. We liked Grizzly for ambience and space but what we liked about Fishing Bridge was the fact that we were inside park. We didn't have to get in line with all the other vehicles lining up to get in park each day. So our personal preference for ease and central location would be Fishing Bridge.
  • I could not find the Fishing Bridge Campground site map. The older section that is closer to the campground entrance is tighter and very worn. The upper or back loops are better.
I do not care for Grizzly. We stay at Buffalo Crossing in West Yellowstone at the IMAX theater. Yes, it is outside the park.
There is a Forest service campground north of West Yellowstone that has some hook ups. No reservations first come first serve. I think it is called Bakers Hole but not sure.
Look through these photos from NPS website. Most are from upper or back area.

  • Grizzly RV is nice but there is also Colter Bay RV on the south entrance. Both different. Wanting full hookups may not equate to wanting the RV resort experience like Grizzly. Colter is more park-like and national park feeling, if there is such a thing. We like full hookups but not the side by side, so compromise by going with just electricity at FS CG's like Baker's Hole. There are other FS CG's in the surrounding areas with electricity and water spigots to fill up. Anyway, that may be off topic a little.
  • Make your reservations for Fishing Bridge RV Campground now. We have camped there several times, the latest was this past July. I don't think any part of the campground is any better than the other. It is just a place, with full hookups, to spend the night while you explore one of the most beautiful parks in the world.
  • If you want full hookups with nicer rv park, consider staying at The Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone, which is located right smack on the edge of the park and is about half way between the north and south loops of the park, so not out of your way too much. But do the reservations way early because it is a popular rv park.
