Fla., the Gulf , to New Orleans in March, April.

Howdy everyone! We are planning to head to St. Augustine and then to the Gulf for two months around March and would like some input on the things not to miss. Not looking for big rv resorts. Our plan is to target a location for a week, check the area out and move on. Ideally, we like to boon dock, but would use Passport America if at all possible. Would like to stay along the forgotten highway RT 98 & near the water would be preferable, along with being dog friendly. Not planning on making any reservations.
We will be taking our truck camper with toad so we could be versatile in camp sites large or small.
Thanks in advance and be safe!

  • I forgot to mention in Port St Joe stay at the St Joseph State Park it's on the bay and the Gulf and the beach is spectacular.
  • Through Florida take 98 all along the Gulf. The Forgotten Coast (Eastpoint, Apalachicola, St. George Island) is really nice. Camp the State park on St. George (#1 in the Country), or the brand new RV Resort on 98 right on the water 2 miles east of Eastpoint (Coastline RV)...absolutely the finest bath facilities anywhere!!! Farther west is Port St. Joe (Joe Mama's Pizza- 100 best in the US), then Mexico Beach (park along 98 for the day right on the beautiful beach. Further west to Panama City and Panama City Beach (St. andrews State Park). it is a wonderful park with 3 sides water and the Gulf is beautiful. Further west on 98 is Destin. Usually crowded during the season but water is truly something else. Two state parks are there and both are wonderful; Top Sail and Henderson Beach...both parks on the water (RV sites are not on water). Go further west to Navarre Beach. Try St. Rosa RV Resort. Brand New and really...right on the water. Beautiful Gulf Island seashore across the bay is worth a cruise and only two minutes to get there from St Rosa. Further west to Pensacola check out the State Parks...Enjoy
  • Come out for a (free) manatee tour in Homosassa Springs Fl. Try Gail Minor Holton @ Facebook. This is a free voluntary service we have done or the last 14 years. Pictures and videos are on the site. Jan. 20 to April 2.
  • Headed through Mississippi to new orleans on coast 90, there are plenty of beach side parking areas to boondock, its a beautiful beach, the water is very warm,(not my cup of tea). Casinos galore and restaurants up and down rt 90 near Keesler AFB. Be sure to check out the New Shark Heads gift shop.. Big great white shark mouth entrance. Cant miss it.
