Florida in the winter

We have just recently retired and are not going to be full timers. But we will be going for extended periods of time. We are planning on being at Topsail SP in Florida for spring break in March 2015. We would like to tour Florida before. We could be gone from home up to 2 month. I have been looking on the internet, too many choices. DH like golf, fishing and anything on the water. We would like to stay 2+ weeks in one spot at a time. Any suggestions? Or am I too late to book anything good?
  • You aren't too late (except for waterfront state parks in the Keys that fill up the second bookings open, 11 months ahead. Even there, you may pick up some days here and there, by checking the websites often, or by showing up next winter and asking about cancellations.)

Don't forget county parks with campgrounds. There's one called Long Point in Melbourne surrounded by the Indian River, for example. One popular one is Ft. DeSoto, below the Tampa Bay Area. Some county parks give first crack at booking to their residents, then open up res to others.

For commercial parks, you may find they have been concentrating on rebooking their regulars who come for the season, and now are filling in with the shorter stay two-week type returnees (like us.) So it's good you are thinking ahead now.

Fishing is available almost everywhere in Fla on lakes, rivers, offshore, etc. You might like the "Treasure Coast" area below Melbourne Beach. Lots of fishing around Sebastian Inlet State Park, which has a popular Campground. I enjoyed the McLarty Treasure Museum near there.

    Enjoy!
  • Make sure you book two full weeks at Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, FL.
I can't say enough good things about this park.
  • Check out the area from Pensacola to Mexico Beach. Many rv resorts, various prices, most closeto the beach, llot's of golf fishing and of course eating. We will be going to where we have the last 3 years. Panama City Beach RV Resort in Panama City Beach.
  • Lots of places left. Many you don't even need reservations for. What you WILL find is that the farther south you go and the closer you are to the ocean or Gulf, the more the rent is.

Check out Grand RV and Golf Resort, Rock Crusher RV Park or around Bushnell.
