I can't fathom where someone would see disrespect in a foreign national being proud of his country.
What I find disrespectful is people who have no clue about flag etiquette and keep Old Glory out 24/7 with no lights at night, and remaining up until it is dirty, tattered and torn. Then they use it to make a sofa cover. ;)
We took a caravan to Alaska last summer. One of the participants had so many wingnut political bumper stickers on his car, you could hardly see the color! I thought that was in poor taste being displayed in Canada.
