We got back to VT from Acadia yesterday. The foliage along RT 2 in Maine and NH was BRILLIANT - the best we've seen up here in 45 years! The Northeast Kingdom is way past peak. All the roads in Acadia are closed, but folks are accessing the trails and hiking the Carriage Roads by parking large numbers of vehicles at points on public roads that intersect the park. On October 1st campers at the Park CGs were given 48 hours to leave, and half the bathrooms were shut down. We were at a private CG and saw no bump in camper numbers. The 2000 cruise ship passengers that are normally bused around the island are milling around Bar Harbor. There seems to be plenty of room in the private CGs, but most of them as well as many restaurants and attractions shut down on Columbus Day.
