Fort Amarillo RV Resort

Recently returned from our trip from TN to CO. Finding campgrounds along or closeby I-40 was trickier than I expected....a LONG section of not much. Found Fort Amarillo RV Resort, gave them a call, talked to someone who actually knew what they were talking about and made the reservations. Could not have asked for nicer facilities and reasonably priced. We're not talking paved sites, but the sites we had both ways were excellent and level. The sites are large enough that you have room to open your awning - unless there is a tree where you parked - but with a slight adjustment, you'd be clear. There is room to leave the TT hooked up, which is wonderful for just overnighting. Nice feature is that they have an attractive, maybe 4' high, fence between the sites, so you feel like you have lots more privacy. Staff was outstanding. Gift shop to die for....definitely can find something great to take back to your pet-sitter, house watcher, etc.

Got up the first morning and found a nasty wind storm and advisories against travel. We called the office and though they're usually totally booked, they could let us stay right where we were. Laundry facilities were the least expensive we've ever seen - $1 for 30 minute wash, $1 for 45 minute dry....if you work it just right you can get both loads done in that 45 minutes. Spotlessly clean. Free Wi-Fi that actually works!

There is another campground in Amarillo with a very similar name, so make sure you're checking out Fort Amarillo. Highly recommend it.

  • This is good news as I have a reservation with them early next month. Thanks for the review.

  • We stayed there two years ago and they were great. We had hitch problems and they helped with finding a dealer and were accommodating when we needed to extend our stay.
