Fort Wilderness in July

My wife is starting to talk about visiting Disney in July. Will it be ridiculously hot? Should I stop the madness? There is no other time we can go and we are itching to get there. Don't want to spend the whole week sweating though....
  • Kids??? Probably more difficult with young kids when that hot. Older kids generally seem to take it better. There are some indoor air conditioned attractions/shows that you can slip into for cool down breaks. But waiting outside rides in long lines can be miserable. All that pavement and close confines with all the buildings blocking the wind leads to excessive heat.
  • We have gone during late July and early August. Is it hot? Certainly. Just as others have said, go early, leave mid-day, and return later. Make use of the pool at FW. Get some bottled water in plastic bottles and freeze them. Take the frozen bottles with you and they will melt during the day and you will have cold water. Staying hydrated will help. You can also bring some snacks with you if you don't want buy food at the park.

  • You can go to www.weather.com and get the averages for any city in the US for any month. I did that and found the averages for the middle of the month to be HI 91 and LO 72. No info on the humidity.
  • We camped in July and yes its ridiculously hot. Even the pool in FW was hot. Its Florida in July and its tropical. So the deal is to get out very early, then get back to the rig and siesta in the mid day, then go back in around 5ish.

The Hooped De Do Review in the CG is great as is taking the boat ride to Magic Kingdom. We only took the bus once which was a mistake. The boat ride really made a difference.

It was the most expensive CG we ever went to but is so clean you could eat off your pad. A lot of fun.
  • We went down there every summer for four years when the kids were small. You're staying on-property, so you can take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours.

Be there when the park opens, and stay there until noon. Then head back to Ft. Wilderness to swim or relax in the A/C of your RV. Go back around 4 or 5, and stay until the park closes (and don't forget the fireworks).

Another option, which we also took advantage of, is to go to one of the other resorts on property and spend the hot part of the day at the water parks of the resorts.
  • We've been there in late June. It was very hot in our opinion. We're used to NC hot and humid but WDW was worse. Also visited other years in Feb, Mar and early Nov...waaay better temps and less crowded.
  • It's central Florida, no big deal to us natives but it is hard for us to judge how those from northern climes will fare. We are masters of shade, air conditioning and a slower pace.
