While I've visited a few forts, I'm far from an expert. Still here links to my journals that mention a few:
Fort Ontario in my home town of Oswego, NY is at the mouth of the Oswego River & Lake Ontario. A good example of a "Star" shaped fort that is interesting to visit, particularly during a reenactment. French and Indian War 250th Commemoration Reenactment.
Cove Fort in Millard County, UT near the I70 & I15 junction. An interesting stop, but be prepared to be "Mormonized" by the volunteers.
Old Fort Williams, Ontario, Canada.
Fortress of Louisbourg, Louisbourg, Nova Scotia. Lots of volunteers, many buildings, we enjoyed it even on a rainy day.
Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista, AZ. Huge, not what I expected, but there are some museums on the post that are closed on weekends.
Fort Walla Walla Museum, Walla Walla, WA.Another large "fort" with museum displays in many buildings.
