The cheapest place to stay is the campground at Main Street Station I think that it's around $18.00 a night. It's basically a parking lot with hookups but it's convenient to Fremont Street and downtown Vegas. Main Street's buffet is pretty good. The website doesn't mention the campground - call the hotel to make reservations.It's a short drive to the strip and convention center.
If you want a little more natural setting Las Vegas Bay Campground in Lake Mead NRA is really nice but farther away.
