freecampsites.net--good site?

I enrolled in freecampsites.net. It appears to be a good site for that. I'm wondering if that turned out to be true for you? Are the sites truly free (or stated reduced rate), or are there hitches, etc., that one should consider. Seems there's always a caveat to consider before relying on such a site. I appreciate your experiences here.

It's an excellent site IMO. It's like anything else so it's not perfect I suppose. I ran across one campsite along US25 in Denver that I couldn't find but a I have visited another dozen or so that were good and a few of them being outstanding. One was listed as $10.00 and some of the reviews said it was $15.00. I went to it and stayed but it ended up being $20.00 when I went to the village office to pay the next morning.

It's a tool that you have to work with. I will look at the user reviews then go to Google maps and zoom into street view to see what the area looks like and see if it's compatible with my size rig. There is often a link to the entity that controls the campsite such as core of engineers, dept of ag, etc and I will go to it and research it further.

I went to South Carolina last year and the first campsite we went to was one of the most beautiful we have ever been to. While we were there we drove around and checked out a few others and only one of them was usable for us. It was a matter of them not being good for my size rig.

As you visit the campsites you can leave a review and pictures so others have an idea whether it will work for them and the rig that they have. As I have visited various sites I have had locals tell me about other spots. Those can be contributed to Freecampsites.

I also like that they have cheap pay for sites as I sometimes want to leave my rig for the day and go do stuff. They sometimes have a host or someone on site so Im more comfortable that way.
So.....to me, the guy who had a buddy give me the nick named "The Cheap Ba - - - - d", I consider it to be a fantastic find. :)

What area are you interested in, if I may ask?

WE plan a trip across country via Death Valley, Branson, to the east coast.

Ok, just wondered. I have mainly been in the south from Tx to S Carolina. Be safe and enjoy your trip.

  • The very-near-homeless have found the directory very useful and informative in our neck of the woods. Some of the ares listed used to be some of our favorites until the word got out. Oh well.
  • I use that website quite often, and have added a few free campsites to the database.
  • Hi,

The weakness of the site is that information becomes dated. I've personally added about 500 sites. Some are no doubt, no longer free, and some may be closed. The site has no way of keeping current except from folks leaving reviews, so please do add comments about the locations. Please correct gps numbers if you can by mentioned any errors in your comments.
