Furnace Creek Fire
Just got back from 4 days at Death Valley, and yes they got a good ammount of rain, enough for them to close most roads due to water.
Friday night as we were camped at Sunset we noticed smoke coming from over the ridge on 190. It looked like it was coming from the jeep rental place across the street from the inn, all of a sudden there was lights and sirens going off we looked out the door and the whole area was lit up with flames. It ended up being the building above the jeep rental place, witch is Furnace Creek Inn's laundry and storage. The whole roof burned and fell in and destroyed the whole bldg. Nothing else was harmed. Needless to say they made a detour thru the inn parking lot. Since the bldg was the laundry where soap is the next day there appeared soap suds all the way down the drainage headed towards Badwater. The only thing that wasn't burned was a stainless bar-b-q sitting on the roof, it still was there and looked untouched.
