Galveston Ferry

no. enjoy the trip. the Galveston ferry is easy, only restrictions are to close your propane valves, no fuel in 'carry on ' jugs.

Take 124 to 87 then 3005 to 257 then 332 at Freeport. Good roads for most any size RV. At Freeport you have to get off the barrier islands. Allow at least a few days to explore Galveston Island. I believe 87 south of Port Arthur is closed and if heading south you have to access it from 124.

If continuing south you can get back on the barrier islands at Port Aransas to Corpus. Allow time to explore the Rockport area. Then don't miss the historic aircraft carrier the Lexington at Corpus Christie. Lots of great secluded beaches along the way too. Goose Island State Park, Galveston Island State Park and Mustang Island State Park. Also Padre Island National Seashore. A side trip to Goliad State Park is also worth it.

Ferries in Texas are free.

No such thing. The ferry operator SHOULD ask you if your propane is turned off but don't always do it.

I10 to Winnie, 124 to High Island, 87 to the ferry. All nice roads.

If staying in Galveston Sandpiper on the east end and Dellanera on the west end are both nice places convenient to Galveston activity.
If staying at Galveston SP go to the bay side. The beach side is, well, not the best.

Jamaica Beach park is my least favorite of the private parks. Many full timers and has a crowded feel.

Just off the island across from the San Luis Pass bridge is a county park that is not bad as well as Quintana Beach park further south in Freeport. However, there is nothing there for amusement but beach and fishing. Stores are not close by.

I agree with Goose Island, Rockport, Aransas Pass, Lexington, etc. A lot along the coast heading south.

Mustang Island SP suxs, just my opinion.

The drive down the Bolivar Peninsula is very nice. The ferry ride is very easy and can accommodate any size RV/tow. Watch for dolphins on the ride and enjoy the free cruise.

Once you get off the ferry you're in city driving so keep your eyes open for urbane hot foots. Heading south from Galveston along the coast there are some pretty steep bridges which are no big deal other then the visual when you first see them. I still remember DW asking if we could get over them.

We enjoy Jamaica Beach RV park. There is a difference between the needs of weekenders and snowbirds in what they like. When your RV becomes your home for six months it's nice to have FHU/cable TV/swimming pool/hot tub/easy access/neighbors that are FT/PT'ers/etc...

As a sidebar, Galveston is a cruise port for some fairly inexpensive western Caribbean cruises which now will not require the expense of a flight. We spent a month on the Island and left the MH hooked up for a week while we took a little RCCL vacation. The park owners drove us, and picked us up at the cruise ship even. Ahhh... the life of a snowbird.

We've used the Galveston ferries for our 30 foot fifth wheel many times. It's easy. The operators will direct you to load onto the ferry into a straight on, straight off approach.

The ferry ride itself is an important part of the Galveston Island experience. It's fun. Enjoy.

There is no "frisking"; they will probably remind you to turn off your propane.

Brewskis is good down that way.... Actually beer is good everywhere hehe...

I've heard that you have to ask for one, they have a big guy there with fat fingers that enjoys doing them for free. I guess you're in for a "bumpy" ride after that though.

Great place to check out the roof of the RV. Get parked, then go upstairs. You'll be able to look right down onto the roof.
