Gatlinburg Campgrounds??

Check out Smoky Bear Campground. It's about 20 minutes east of Gatlinburg. Super clean, wonderful hosts, not big, and away from the hustle and bustle. From my understanding they were not affected by the fires

All campgrounds in the Pigeon Forge/ G'burg area are fine. Take your pick. Gatlinburg is busy as ever so bring your patience for the traffic. Its slow going on the main road to go anywhere. Consider campgrounds east of G'burg on 321 for getting out of the noise for some dark and quiet nights. If you want closer to the busy and activities stay up towards Pigeon Forge. All the ones I have seen are not that busy so getting in should not be a problem. Nights have been getting down into the upper 20's and daytime temps have been mid 40's to mid 50's so come prepared.

We've stayed at Anchor Down in Dandridge about 29 minutes from Gatlinburg and the Pigeon Forge KOA. The KOA is in a great location right beside Patriot Park, where all the trams leave from. Anchor Down is beside a large reservoir and is beautiful.

We sometimes stay in RiverEdge RV Park just as you go into Pigeon Forge coming from Gatlinburg. It has a trolly stop on the site.. Being between Gatlingburg and Pigeon Forge makes its a great place to stay... Most often we like to stay inside the Smoky Mtn Park at ELKMONT CAMP which doesn't have hookups etc...

Also the camp sites around TOWNSEND are great. Lots of great sites with hookups... More private keeping away from all of the traffic and folks in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge areas...

We stayed at the Jellystone in G-burg (Cosby TN). It is now Imagination Mountain. Still owned by the same owners. Great place that is about 15-20 minutes east of G-burg.

Up the Creek RV Park just got some good reviews on here. It will likely be our place next time. We've done 3 so far:
Camping in the Smokies....on the highway, way too noisy.
Cove Creek RV....a great view of stored RV's, looks like a junkyard. otherwise OK.
Cove Mountain RV...not too bad.
I stayed in the park with the cabover, the best for me. Maybe not for the wife.

Camped in Gatlinburg and Pigon Forge for over 30 years. Go to rvpark reviews and select your price and location based on the reviews. We also visit them twice per year. We definitely will help the recovery.

Thanks for the info guys!! We probably will want to be closer to hiking, but will spend time in the town for dinner etc. We can't do the NP campgrounds since we have a residential fridge, so we need hookups, or tote a cooler.

We use Twin Creeks, it is located with near the main park entrance and to down town. Plus on the free trolley route that goes to town and the craft loop. Also close to markets and restaurants. Wooded and has all the extras. Has some large sites not just a parking lot.

We go to PF and Gatlinburg often - it's about 2 1/2 hrs away from us. I have several recommendations, but it's according to what you want.

If you want a full-service campground in Gatlinburg, try Twin Creek, which is just outside of the downtown area.

If you want a full-service campground in Pigeon Forge, try Pine Mtn RV Park (our favorite), which has a year-round pool to use.

If you want to be out of the main areas, but still have FHU, try Smoky Bear in Cosby. Owners are on-site and care for it.

If you want limited services, Elkmont is great, but may be closed for the year, I'm not sure.

Just so you know, there is lots of traffic in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, even after the fires, but they sure do want your business (money).

Pine Mountain is at the lower end of Pigeon Forge, closer to Gatlinburg and about 1/2 mile from the bypass that will take you up into the GSMNP to the Sugarland Welcome Center.
