Golf Cart Friendly Cities?

Golf Carts and LSV are becoming more and more common in Campgrounds, and RV Resorts, not only as transportation around the Park but also as a method to travel around some of the streets and roads of the areas.
I know of the Villages in Fl, and Myrtle Beach, Does anyone know of other areas, not just the Park itself, but the Local Area, we enjoy riding our Cart, which I might add is Street Legal, and has Insurance. We would like to know of others, I'm sure there must be some.

  • I believe all street legal golf carts are only allowed on roads up to 35 mph. And yes they are considered a vehicle and cannot be banned if used according to the law and the way the vehicle is registered. So a town cannot ban a street legal golf cart. That would be like banning my Excursion because they don't want it on the road!
  • LSV's are generally limited to streets of 35 mph or lower.

If you have the money consider getting a smart car electric or even better the cabrio version. Three times the price of a golf cart but all the same advantages of size, etc. Range is around 80 miles or so. The car will happily run around 80 mph, solid as a rock, excellent safety ratings and available as a convertible. Good cargo area for day to day type shopping. Still the funnest cars we have ever owned. (Ours are not electrics but if our little diesels ever quit we will replace at least one with an electric. Perfect for our commute)

  • The entire state of SD appears to be LSV friendly. As long as it meets motorcycle safety equipment requirements, and you license it, you can ride on most any road in the state, except an interstate highway. They even sell a temporary license for out of state owners, that do not have it licensed in their home state. We are riding our OHV on the highways, all over the western part of the state, along with many others.
  • Street legal also often means that you can only drive it on streets with certain speed limits.

There are certain vehicles in the Commonwealth of Virginia that do not meet the definition of a motor vehicle, like an ATV ( I know, I tried) which therefore cannot be registered & so cannot be driven on the road, I would assume a golf cart falls under the same law. Now, having said that, they drive them around my neighborhood all the time.
  • Golf carts that are street legal are only legal in some areas & some states....SC allows street legal golf carts (seat belts lights turn signals etc.) with in 4 miles of primary residence.

    bumpy
  • In back and forth to work few times a day. It's less than a mile. I would buy a golf cart tomorrow if it were legal.
  • Not a destination, but Peachtree City, Georgia is a golf cart community. I wish more would go this route. I would drive ours to work if I could and didn't live 35 miles away. Lol
