There's a CO State Park near Fruita with FHU. In June it can be getting pretty hot so we camp up at Colorado National Monument. No hookups, but quite a bit cooler up there with a great view.
For things to do, there's a dinosaur museum in Fruita. One can spend a day at the NM. To cool off, try heading up on Grand Mesa which is around 10,000'. Around the lakes the mosquitoes can be quite bothersome, but as you head west toward lands end, there are fewer and the wildflowers in the meadows are fantastic.
One can easily day trip down to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP. Well worth the trip.
Of course Moab is less than two hours away. Amazing red rock scenery (we're heading there this weekend). But can be pretty hot in June.
If you like to mountain bike, the trails north of Fruita (18 Road), have some easier, very fun loops. More technical riding out near the weigh station on the way to Utah.
I'd be able to give you some other options if we knew your interests.
