40 over Berthoud is no issue with a proper truck. There will be construction so be prepared to go slow at times. Just take your time. Two lanes going up either side. We stayed at winding river this summer and loved it! You will have a blast.

I made the tow up I-70 to 40 and over Berthoud pass to Grand lake in June. The road is fine. There was some construction on the shoulder of the pass coming home but no biggie. We have GMC 8.1 gasser with our 28' Sundance and the pass was not an issue. Other than I-70 traffic, not a bad drive at all.

We really enjoyed Winding River campground. Nice being right on the edge of RMNP. Saw moose and elk in the campground. We plan to go back again in the next month.

See my post right above yours - that's US 9 - with the construction on it. Not an easy pull for the time being!

Well if one really wants to go the easy way. Go west on I80 to Laramie, Wy then 230 to Waldon, Co over to Grand Lake. Or you can go west on 14 to Waldon through the Poudre a Canyon to Waldon. Longer, nicer, easier drive. I Hate I70 pulling.

Go 70 west over to Frisco and then north to Kremmling, then east to Grand Lake. It is an easy pull and safe!

You want to avoid 9 between Silverthorn and Kremmling for a while longer - construction was supposed to be completed last week but is a long ways from done. Up to 45 minute delays and very rough dirt road thru construction around Green Mountain Reservoir.

40 over Berthoud has some construction on the north side, but very litte delay on Friday morning for our friends, and none by midday on Friday.

Berthoud is steep, but a very good road.

Larry, brakes alone are not going to get you down safely. Do you have an exhaust brake on your 1 ton?

I have disc on my pick up disc on my Th wheel but no bakes o the second trailer weighing in at 1900 gross

I would not go 45 miles further to keep from going over Berthoud Pass.

I would double tow over it with something like this... otherwise probably NOT. Do you have brakes on both trailers? I would go the 45 miles further if double towing with a PU as I-70/Loveland is a fairly easy long climb and decent.
