Gulf coast things to do!

Hello. We will be in AL (Orange Beach), MS (Biloxi area) and LA (New Orleans) in 2 weeks. We will be pretty much be along the water the entire time. Looking for suggestions on things to do. I’ve already got all the basics and some odd things planned. Looking for fun and different things to do.
New Orleans isn’t a problem as we will only be there for a day and a half to see the French Quarter).
Thanks.
  • Orange Beach Great Beach and water, Biloxi casinos and if children are along Margaritaville.
  • If you make it to Mobile, AL, I recommend dinner at Felix's Fish Camp. It's a little fancy and requires reservations, but we had good luck dining at the bar. We met some real characters that way, which wouldn't have happened if we had our own table.
  • When in Orange Beach, a part day side trip to Alligator Alley is fun! https://gatoralleyfarm.com/

Not very far away, doesn't need a major time commitment, and more gators in one spot that you've likely ever seen! Not very expensive, great for everyone, except maybe the dog...
  • Orange Beach area is a great area. We will be down there in a little over a week. It will be our 4th trip there this year.
Gulf State Park is great if you are staying there, lots of walking/biking trails. The beach is great, fishing should be good. On the way from MS, if you go the interstate, you can stop at Battleship park and see the USS Alabama from WW2, and some other military history.
Instead of the interstate, there is a Ferry you can take across Mobile Bay from Dauphin Island over to the eastern shore of the bay. On the Dauphin Island side is a Sea Lab with lots of ocean/fish/ecology exibits, on the Eastern shore, is Ft Morgan as civil war fort.
Fair Hope is a easy and nice drive up the eastern shore of the bay and is a cute little town if you like those.
Oct 13-15 is the Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores. Its fun if you like festivals.
Its a great area, normally it is not very crazy, the Shrimp Fest will be busy.
The Gulf State Park Pier is nice to walk out on even if not fishing, normally you can see fish cruising around, and it is free if you are staying at the state park campground.

Ditto on the above. We're leaving in a couple of days for a 3-day stay in the Park. Actually, going to drop the trailer off after for storage there, and then return for a 3 month stay (Jan-March). Gulf State Park is frequently cited as the best State Park in the country. Huge, long undeveloped beach, the pier mentioned, 20+ miles of bike/hike paved trails, free bike share program, huge swimming pool, fresh water lakes for fishing/boating, dog park with dog beach, and more...
  • Thanks everyone. We will be down there the 10-12. We are staying at Sun Outdoors which borders the state park. We are bringing our bikes so we will be doing some riding. Sounds like we will miss the festival, which we do like to go to them. And I had seen the dauphin island, but wasn’t sure what to expect.
  • The alligator alley we've traveled is in FL. Way down in FL. Is there another one?

It’s basically an Alligator Zoo in AL. Something to do for an hour or so!
  • Thanks everyone. We had a great time. The beaches in AL were great, don’t like that they charge for parking though. FL and MS don’t charge for beach front parking! The shrimp festival was good, but only 2 shrimp vendors and a lot of random junk for sale! Still a good walk through. Traffic was bad. Do they really need to shut down the main road In town? It sure doesn’t look like it needs to be shut down!
MS was OK, we aren’t gamblers so the beach was it for us.
New Orleans? Sorry I wasted a 1/2 day there. We got there at noon and went to the French quarter. Stayed till 8 and came back to the RV. Me and the wife talked and left for Branson the next morning! We could’ve used that extra day in Branson or AL.
Still a great trip though! Had a great time at 3 of the 4 places we went!
