Yes, Amex is the issue most of the time. I'm thinking of opening a MC or Visa just for RV trips now to resolve this issue.
I think you're on the right track. Just get a Visa or Master Card and use that when you travel. Since you have AMX you should have no trouble getting Visa or Master Card. That AMX is just making your RViing life more complicated.
In the '80s and '90s I had every credit card you could imagine, except Diners Club. As I got older I realized how much I was losing in paying interest to all those cards. One by one I paid them all off, except Amex. It's the only card that requires full payment each month. I figured I didn't need any other card and up till now I haven't.
