Gulf Shores State Park

Has anyone ever camped at Gulf Shores State Park in Alabama? We were thinking of going this July. If so, do you have any pictures of the park???? Is it a nice park?
  • Trirboy, thank you for the link to the pictures of the park. Wow...it's really spread out and huge.
Craigt, We are probably going on a Monday and it said there was 125 sites open that day.

We thought about going for the 4th of July, but I waited to long and nothing is available. So, we probably will be going around the 8th. If they assign you a site and you don't like it, how hard is it to get a different site?
  • At Gulf Shores, all sites that are available are open for you to choose. That said, if you arrive on a Sunday or Monday you have many more sites to choose from than on a Saturday. When you look at their reservation site, it will show you how many open sites they have for the day that you arrive; pick the best day.

Very few trees at GSSP since Hurricane Ivan came through in '04 taking out the trees and vegetation.

Great park; we hope to get back there in June.
  • I have lots of pictures of the state park in Gulf Shores. As a matter of fact we will be there right after 4th of July this year. Click on my PHOTOLINK and you should be able to find the album about the park.

Oh no. Well I guess we will be bringing lots of bug spray. :(

  • It looks like a huge campground, spread out. We are going in July, so I have a feeling all the good sites will be taken.
Is there any shade? We are really looking forward to going.
  • I don't have any pics, but I will agree that it is a nice park. The last time we went, the pool was ALMOST finished. They opened the week after we left. The sites are Gator Road, right on the water are our favorites.

Be aware that the park is NOT on the beach, but you still get the wind/breeze from the ocean. You have to drive, walk or bike the mile to the public beach access.
  • Very nice park - close to beach, large sites, lots of bicycling trails. If you do a search on this forum you will lots of info.
