A while ago I saw this posted.
Harvest Hosts
Has anyone had any direct experience with this? My wife is very 'into' wine and I thought this could be a way to get her into a say 4 month tour, with maybe half time? at these wineyards.
Any and all comments appreciated.

  • My wife and I joined HH back in March because we were going to do a 2 month tour this summer, which we did. We have stayed at 7 HH locations on this trip with the most recent one night before last.
It was well worth the $40 we spent. Twice we stayed multiple nights.
If you shoot me an email I will provide my name and if you join HH we will both have an additional month added to our membership.
  • I should have checked first to see where you live. Four of the HH locations were in Canada. We stayed 3 nights at the Hennigar farm in Wolfville, NS. It was beautiful there.
  • We are in Ontario. Likely not going to get to the east coast, we have been there twice and while Nova Scotia is fantastic ..... so many places not seen in the midwest and the west coast. Likely trip is through upstate New York, then south then west to the coast. Return is totally open, but we have several friends in B.C..
  • We are members of HH as well, but have never used it. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it or not. Besides the beautiful scenery, it can still end up costing you as much as an RV Park. By the time you buy a couple of bottles of wine from them, you are looking at $25+.... And I believe the majority do not provide any amenities...maybe with exception of wifi or maybe some water.

We're a member but have only got to use it once. It was a very nice experience with very friendly people in Orville, WA. They provided a very nice parking place on their lawns and we spent two nights.

It's true that it might cost you as much as an RV park (I haven't seen one for $25). We spent about $60 on wine, but it was a whole lot more pleasant experience to buy it from the people who made it than at some liquor store.

They provided water, but if you can't make it one or two nights on your own, then pay for a crowded RV park. Waking up in the morning to the view and quietness of the vineyards was well worth what we paid for the wine. You could say the wine was free......
