I've booked plenty of private campgrounds in prime locations like Maine during the summer where you pay a full night up front as a non-refundable deposit from day one.
When you chose to make a reservation and paid in full for a holiday date, they told you in writing exactly what your canx penalty would be, right? How is that a rip-off?

They tell you up front the cost of cancellation. If there was no penalty people could for example reserve the same date at several places then cancel all but the one with the best weather or something like that.
18 bucks, come on get over it. It's part of the convenience of reserving a spot. RA and the CG have costs associated with making your reservation. They shouldn't have to eat that because you change your mind.
