Heading South by going West

We Workamp in Upstate NY during Summers and Winter near Tampa, FL. We take different routes coming and going to explore and blog about what we find. This Fall we would like to see some of Canada by way of the Trans-Canada Highway (17) from Ottawa to Sault Ste Marie and then I-75 South from there. Does anyone have good campground suggestions along that stretch of Canada highway and possibly some "don't miss" places to visit? We will cross over into Canada probably at Ogdensburg, NY. All suggestions are invited. - Jack & Niki

  • Very good suggestion Joe and the type of place we like to visit but their website says they close Sept 2nd. I am wondering if the Victoria Park Campground in Smiths Falls closes that early also? I will contact them and find out.
  • Stop in Smiths Falls to take a tour of the Rideau Canal. (just up the road from me). There is a campsite right beside the canal that is open until Thanksgiving (CDN of course :))
  • Thanks RedAce that's very good to know. We were planning to spend the first week of October on the Canadian leg of the trip. I guess we won't be stretching it longer on this trip!
  • Don't know when you plan to make the trip, but most campgrounds close after the second Monday in October. Canadian Thanksgiving.
