Help with route from Vancouver BC to Lake Havasu

I dread driving through big cities so would like suggestions to heading south in a couple of weeks. In the past we have headed down I-5 then east from a little south of Weed Ca. onto 89 then to Susanville and 395. We enjoy the slower more scenic 395 route. My question is, what other route could we take that would get us off I-5 sooner ?

I wondered about Seattle to Kennewick on 90/82 then over to 395 ?

  • Microsoft S&T sends you across a ferry to Seattle and to Twin Falls Idaho and down 93.

If you have a RV and do not want another ferry ride, I added Olympia in and it sends you down I-5 and 99 in the California Center Valley and East on 58 at Brakersfield. I like to stay on I-5 down to 120 to cross over to 99 South of Stockton. Watch for this exit carefully or you are going down I-5 in the central valley. Got that t-shirt and merit badge once.

Here is my routing and mileage part of the way.

    La Conner, Wa 0
Tri City RV -Running total-440- ,mileage for the day-440 27-Dec Sun Myrtle Creek, Or
Rolling Hills RV -Running total-715-mileage for the day-275 28-Dec Mon Corning, Ca
Sun & Fun -Running total-1043-mileage for the day-328 29-Dec Tues Tulare, Ca

From Tulare, Ca you have 374 miles to Havasu City.

WE like Rolling Hills Casino in Corning. Easy in and out and fuel right there. Park free with the trucks or in the RV park pull throughs. Tri City RV is a Passport America discount park. Away for freeway noise, but easy to get to with a new exit South of it. Fuel at Seven Feathers seven miles South. The Sun & Fun will be new to us if we use it, and is Passport America also.

Cummins12V98 just gave me a report on 99 and said it is getting better and better.

Don't even consider #3 this late in the year with an rv, the weather is too unpredictable and that road is not forgiving. U.S. 2 is a better route although it is a hard climb over Steven's pass. Unfortunately there is no easy route through the mountains.

Actually the easiest pull is 90, but 12 over white pass is a close second. #2 is having flooding in Sultan this week. but you can run 5 all the way to portland and take 84 out to the east, but I'd stay with 5 until well south this time of year.

Steven's pass isn't that bad of a climb. And the easy route is to go down to the Columbia on I-5 and take I-84 east, pick up US 97 and head south, or go further east until you can pick up US 95 or US 93, depending upon how you want to go.

  • Difficult one as you will need to come south on I-5 through Everett, WA, then sort of skirt Seattle on I-405 hitting Bellevue traffic before getting to I-90.
You could miss some of the traffic and take US 2 east from Everett. It is a scenic two lane highway. You would then travel on east WA 28 from Wenatchee, pick up WA 28 to Quincy, then south to George on WA 281, I-90 to Vantage and take WA 243,WA 24 and WA 240 to Kennewick. Pick up I-82 to I-84.
I would not take US 395 but go east and take US 93 south.
Good roads for most part, great scenery and a lot less traffic.
  • Vancouver Island, -> ferry to Port Angles, 1 south to Olympia , 5 south to 12 east to 97 south to 395.
  • East on I90, south on I82, east on I84, south on 395.
I5 to Portland, east on 26, south on 97, southeast on 31, south on 395
