We are in a fl state park in the keys. Daughter SNL and grandson came in today in a rental 25footer. They were trying to get the 3 year. old to sleep in a strange bed /place , never camped before, so they are running the ac fan for white noise. Anyway, to get to the point, the neighbors came over with an attitude and asked them to cut their ac off because they were sleeping with the windows open and it was bothering them. My daughter came over ( we are on the other side ) and asked me if that was normal. I went over and listened to the ac, no clanging,no rattling fan,just a roof ac doing its thing, not quiet but none are.I told them to run it if they want to and screw the neighbors. They can close the windows on that side or cut their own fan on ( I am sure it is much quieter ). Told her if they came back to send them to see me. Opinions?

We had one like that in the Lassen Volcanic park cg. Our fridge wasn't working on propane so we had to run our honda generator during generator hours. This women made three or four trips to the CG host to complain. The host came over to talk to us and I pointed out we only ran it during generator hours and didn't do that most of the time since we were away from the CG most of the time.I went over to talk to the woman and she was completely unreasonable, she expected complete quiet while in a CG. I should have told her to go Boondocking but she finally just packed up and left.People like that are very rare, that's the only one that sticks in my mind from 40 years of camping. Camper are almost all the better sort of people.

Unreasonable comes to mind. If you want total quiet then you do need to boondock in the wide open spaces.

I am hypersensitive to sound but take the onus upon myself to deal with it. Certain harmonics, repetitive sounds, or sounds that vary in modulation are enough to put me over the edge. Can't take whistling or humming, either. It actually stems from when I was severely hypoglycemic-noise intolerance is a symptom. So I find my own white noise, use ear plugs, or just do my best to ignore. It is VERY tough sometimes but I recognize I am the one with the problem.

Double ditto. Their unreasonable request means they think the world revolves around them. I second the idea of telling them to boondock where they can be king of their own little stump. Or get ear plugs. Or close their windows on your side. You aren't playing music. You aren't running a generator. Many campers run their AC in FL to keep the humidity in their RV under control and to keep wood fire smoke out of their rig because of allergies.

If they act that way towards others it wouldn't surprise me if they awaken sometime to four flat tires. Saw it happen to a campground prima donna back in 1984.

I was in a State park camp ground a couple of years ago and heard someone complaining at the office that the kids were to loud in the mourning, riding their bikes and having a great time. They asked what time this happened and she replied 9:30am. They stated that they went camping for peace and quiet. 9:30 give me a break

Your neighbors need to find a hobby. The "noise" from the fan on an A/C unit is barely noticeable. I use the fan setting on ours as white noise all the time and in climates where a/c is not warranted. Even with the compressor cycling I'd hardly consider the sound a nuisance. Never mind the fact that you're at a campground!!!!

I think their problem is really the appearance of a rental in their paradise. Gasp! Their approaching you is a bigger affront than the a/c fan.

Why would they be riding bikes and having a great time if they were mourning? HMMM
