We were there in 2016 and the guard wanted $25 for my dually to enter the harbor area. I kept my money and left.
What is the Harbor area and what does it have to offer? I don't have a dually but based on the other response I may be rethinking going here sounds very expensive. I never like spending money just to spend more on an attraction etc.
The "harbor" area is actually the Sea Pines side of the island. It costs $5 for non owners to enter, the $25 is for trucks with dual rear tires. It is intended for delivery trucks, but duallys fall into it. This area has the big harbor, Sea Pines Plantation/Harbor Town, shopping, light house, Salty Dog cafe and more.
We have been to Hilton Head a few times and going back in Oct. as we like it. We stay at Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort and Marina and it is nice. When you get there, you will get a golf cart to drive around and then pick out your own site. The park is dog friendly so you don't have to worry about a specific area.
We go to Caligny Plaza and hit the shops, stroll the beach and then eat at Skillets Cafe. They are dog friendly and have a menu for your dog with dishes made for them by a vet. We also go to Shelter Cove and look at the boats and visit the shops there. Alot of good resturants on the island, even have one at the campground, just choose your liking. The whole island is just about covered with biking trails and there are rentals if you don't have your own.
We think it is a nice place to go unwind, chill. If you go in busy season, I could see traffic being an issue.
