That should be an outstanding location from which to view the meteor shower. We were kindof in that Oregon Outback area a few years ago - ~25 miles North of Plush, OR - and the night skies were spectacular. Enjoy.
P.S. I'm curious - if not specifically for the meteror shower - if I may ask, what is the attraction for your camping in that area? I'd like to visit the Steens Mountain area with our RV but haven't put together a trip yet.
