Hominy Valley in North Carolina?

Hi, I am looking for a first hand account of this place. I know it does not have amenities and I dont mind that. I have conflicting info about cable tv and I can seem to get a straight answer on cell service. If anyone has stayed there can you tell me your experience please?

Thanks,

We stayed there last summer for six nights. It is quiet and easy to get in and out of. Pictures are true to form. It is a bit off the beaten path but it is NOT on a mountain or difficult to get to. Shopping and restaurants are not far. He will tell you about a hole-in-the-wall restaurant for breakfast. My husband loved the liver mush for breakfast Yuk to me. What ever you do, DO NOT turn right and travel down the road and up to the parkway. It is not called Jacob's ladder for nothing. I called my kids while we were going up there on the phone to tell them if they never heard from us again, where we were. It was an awful climb for me. I would return if visiting the area again.

Amen to that! That road scared the heck out of me and we were in our truck.
  • We stayed there for about 3 weeks last fall.

We liked it just fine. I don't know about cable because we have directv and got a good signal.

We have Verizon and although a little slow at times, we were able to use the phone and internet. I understand they were going to put a new Verizon right on the hill behind the CG, so it's probably better now.

****BE CAREFUL**** You don't want to miss the campground because you do NOT want to take an Rv on highway 151 (Mt Pisgah Highway) past the campground. It gets ugly.....very sharp turns, narrow roads, steep drop offs, tunnels. I'm not sure it's even possible in a motorhome...certainly not for us.

The sites have large gravel (not my favorite) and you back into them and butt up to a hill. We ended up with the rear of the coach going up and we had some issues getting level. We finally dug out the rocks in the back a little and added some to the front because even with the levelers, we were out of level.

As you look at the cg from the road we were in the last one on the right. The ones towards the left might have been a little better.

We were perfectly happy there because we explored every day and it was pretty centrally located.

The owner was very nice. You stayed on the honor system, buy putting a check in the mail for him. We kept extending our stay.

While we were there, we checked out other campsites in the area and some were up steep mountain roads, or there were lots of trees and sharp turns. We're Floridians with a big rig and not used to mountains, so we wanted something easy to get in and out.

  • Yeah I have talked to them. He says his phone works. RVParkreveiws.com has conflicting info on the cable.

From who? Did you call them directly? Only 5 spaces available? Site says clearly "cable tv", no "wifi".
