This is a good idea no matter what gas you're using. You can't blame everything on ethanol.
my friend the marine mechanic has box fulls of carburetors etc. that he has removed from various engines that have been "eaten up" with ethanol.

How many of these had fuel left in them for an extended period of time? How old were they? Without that information, it's not really useful to know this. One has to take care of an engine, and of course engines that were built before engines were being designed for use with Ethanol-containing fuel aren't going to fair well.
