How About Clarksville TN

We've stayed there 2x. It's an OK park. Convenient to the interstate if you're passing through. Got everything you need. I wouldn't say it's a destination park. Be sure to ask for full hookup site as they do have some water electric only sites in the front. The full hookup sites are closer to the freeway.
Clarksville, Tennessee, in Montgomery County, is a bustling city built by the tobacco trade. The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center, in the city's historic district, was originally constructed as a US Post Office during the tobacco boom. Now it has been converted into art gallery, history center, and hands-on children's museum. There are some things to see and do at Land Between the Lakes.
You might check it out on line.
Paris Landing State Park is fairly close by with reasonable rates.
Drive a little more and stay at Natchez Trace State Park, full hookups there, just off interstate 40.

I have stayed there. The park is nice but nothing special. It was originally built as a KOA. Clarksville is home to Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne Division. There is a museum on post that is worth seeing. To get on post go to Route 41A north of Clarksville and enter from the main gate (gate 4) and keep to the right. Follow sins to enter the parking lot of the building where you can get a pass to get on post. Ask for a post map and directions to the museum.

Bowling green, KY is not far and you can go to the Corvette plant there and see Corvettes made and visit the Corvette museum.

We stay there quite often as our daughter and SIL in the army live off Tylertown Rd. Its a nice park -- well maintained. Great management. You get some road noise but its buffered fairly well.

The river front and its parks in downtown are pretty nice. We are fanatical about the food and atmoshere at the Catfish House (if you like catfish). Its a "must visit for dinner" on each trip there for us.

Clarksville is a good sized town with the army base there-- lots of chain stores and big box retail. Fuel prices are pretty good there also

Yep. I would head further south.

If you want to stay near I-24, check out Old Stone Fort State Park. Might be a good idea to call to check on hookup availability that time of year. But it's a very pretty area near a small town.

Thanks for all the advise. Sounds like we can find some things to do in that area. For sure I want to visit Ft. Campbell and the museum. Spent 8 weeks there when I was 17 years old, so they probably have my old bunk in the darn museum!

Been comparing their 10-day forecast to ours. I agree they are getting some cold temps also, but they seem to recover better during the day. We still need to drive the truck back for X-mas this year so we didn't want to have the fiver parked much more than 400 miles away.

I've been iced in at Nashville before Christmas. Weather in NW Tennessee or Western Kentucky will not be that different from southern Illinois, there are no natural barriers to movement of the air masses.
