How hard will it be to find an overnight spot in FL in Jan?

I am moving permanently to FL in mid January. I will be driving the TT down from Washington DC to below Sarasota. As I am the only driver, I am allowing myself like 3 days or so to get down there. I need to check weather conditions so am unsure of an exact day.
I am kind of worried about finding overnight campsite once I hit Fl, and I don't think I can do Savannah to Sarasota in one day.

Should I be worried, or will it be easy to find something near Gainsville or Ocala or inland FL

  • Often Paynes Prairie State Park just south of Gainesville has spots open (unless there is an event)...it is one of the cheapest Fl state parks (don't tell anyone) but hot as heck when the weather warms up.
  • A nice easy place you might consider is the Osceola national forest about twelve miles east of Lake City on 90 called Ocean Pond. I stay there on my way down each year. $12 a night with a senior card.
  • If it's during the week and you have reservations or arrive early, you shouldn't have a problem. I would definitely call first. Ocala Sun is nice. If you go I-10 to I-75, Lee's Country Campground at White Springs is a nice stop. Just a bit north of the I-10 and I-75 interchange. Reasonable price. Blueberry Hill is at the Bushnell exit. More expensive but closer to your destination.
  • There are a couple of campgrounds before you get into Gainesville, one in Alachua the other at the High Springs exit before Gainesville that will no doubt have available spots. Safe travels.
  • Thanks Fizz, that looks like a place I'll go back to, always wanted to see the Ocala area.
  • Single nights are top money for RV parks, so they keep an appropriate number of sights available to meet demand. Long term sites are another story.
  • One spot for one night shouldn't be a problem. You can always look for a truck stop or wally world in a pinch. It might be a cold night, had a couple last year.
  • I don't think you will have any problem, You can always call ahead
