How likely to get last-minute spots in national parks

Summer is the peak season by far. After Labor Day your chances are much better. Many of the National Parks have not kept up with the demand for RV spaces. Most are set up for tent campers. Your rig will fit into some of them. As long as you are prepared to camp outside the park and commute your plan will work.
