- NHIrishExplorerBoondocks for shrimp night.
- JoeHExplorer IIIWalk down River St. in Savannah--- lots of cools shops/bars. Walk around town and check out the historic buildings and squares. They have a trolley/bus that will take you on a narrated tour. The Crab Shack on Tybee Island was an interesting place to eat.. the low country boil was huge.
- JW_of_Opechee_SExplorerTake the hop on hop off tour and that will let you check out things that interest you and get you around the cities. Charleston is our favorite of the two but Savannah has great restaurants also and the riverfront is a great place to be.
- magnusfideExplorer IIAll of the above are good suggestions. Do wear bug repellent since you will be there in August.:w
- RoyBExplorer IIWith all those camp sites under the trees and beachfront I know what I would be doing haha
Hopefully your incoming Ocean breeze will keep those little bitty mosquitoes at bay... We got run out one year camping at Edisto Beach - no where to hide... Those mosquitoes are so small they can fly straight through a window screen and not even slow down haha...
Friends of ours that live in the Johns Isl area have to put on the head net gear to go pick their garden haha...
We love this area for Beach camping...
Roy Ken - ksbowmanExplorer IIIn Charleston do the horse drawn carriage tour. It is great and you'll get a history of the city. We also liked touring the antebellum mansions and plantations. Great and interesting area.

Those aren't mosquitoes, they are biting gnats.
-Michael - GrapehoundExplorerOMG you don't have to go to savanah! First, check out the Johnson Creek Tavern, just outside the park gates. Good food and lots of good energy. Write your wish on a $1 bill and staple it to the wall; thousands are displayed right now; they donate all to good causes. Then go on down the road a couple miles to Gay Fish Company for the freshest most delicious shrimp. We love our shrimp dinners at the campground! Plan lunch on the porch at The Plum Restaurant in downtown Beaufort, looking out over the newly renovated park and the river. Tour some of the old houses. After lunch go across the street to the Southern Sweets ice cream shop for a treat. Much to see in the little shops in Beaufort. And be sure to climb to the top of the lighthouse at least once on Hunting island. Or walk out the long causeway into the tidal marsh at sunset and see the wildlife at sunset. So much to do. Savannah? Too much right there at HI.
- wildtoadExplorer IIHave to echo what Larry B. Just said. While at Hunting go to the pier and take the trail to where there used to be houses, a paved road, and experience what nature will do to man made objects given a chance. There is still a house on poles 50 yards out in the water that used to be beach front. It is not nice to mess with Mother Nature. She has no sense of humor.
If you're into military history, visit Patriots Point, Ft. Sumter in Charleston. Just note there is no "as the crow files" way to get from Hunting to Charleston so be prepared. - HorsedocExplorer IISt. Helena Parish Chapel of Ease Ruins, Beaufort County (S.C. Sec. Rd. 45, St. Helena Island)
Mid 1700s church built with tabby and the associated grounds. interesting and even more so if you have kids who love ghost stories
