- 2_RetiredExplorerIf you want to spend a few bucks on a great meal in Savannah, go to the Pink House. You can dress up or down, no one cares. DH says the shrimp and grits are the best meal he has ever had. We go to Savannah every year for our anniversary and love so much about it. Greatly enjoyed our 'visit' to Bonaventure Cemetery. So much history! We also enjoy our own 'pub crawl' in Savannah. Can start on Bay Street and then go down to River Street. Fortunately now there's an elevator next to the Hyatt that makes the 'step down' much easier. We also love Savannah Smiles - it's a dueling pianos bar. Great fun and fair prices! In Charleston, definitely take a carriage ride (make sure to get book of discounts - they're everywhere). For food in Charleston, depends on how much you want to spend. GREAT and pricy restaurants in the central market area - as well as T Bones (not part of any restaurant chain) that is a local-type bar and grill. Have a great trip!
- NCWriterExplorerLarry B said what I was thinking. Love Beaufort and the Hunting Island area. Great campground - enjoy!
- fla-gypsyExplorerEat at Hymans in Charleston. One of my favorite cities
- DrbolaskyExplorerIn Charleston - Hymans for seafood (Bubba Gump's is OK, too, but Hymans has a much bigger selection), take a carriage tour and the ghost tours are cool, too (you learn a lot of local history). At Patriot Point is the the USS Enterprise and you can catch the boat to Ft. Sumter. In North Charleston is the Warren Lasch Conservation facility where they are restoring the H. L. Hunley, a Confederate Civil War submarine. Fascinating. We also took in the S. Carolina Aquarium.
Savannah - yes, do the Riverwalk area and tour the city as well. Amazing homes. On Tybee Island is the Crab Shack - has to be experienced to be believed. We also took a boat tour to see dolphins; we weren't disappointed. Enjoy & safe travels. - Loving_God_s_CoExplorerAny great ocean view restaurants? :)
- pegdiverExplorerBoondocks was closed last fall (2015) and for sale. You can tour some of the area on Paris Island too and get a bit of the history and what basic is for the Marines. We like the Johnson Creek Tavern - good food and fair prices. Charleston is our favorite too over Savannah but we like the water front area and the squares. Take the trolley tour of the city. Take the carriage ride in Charleston for a unique view. Stop in at the tourist office in both cities for history and a film.
- fil564ExplorerYes the Crab Shack on Tybee has to be experienced but get the lunch buffet at the Pirate House in Savannah, the fried chicken is up there with Michie's Tavern in Virginia as the best I ever had.
- Loving_God_s_CoExplorerThank you all so much for your suggestions I really appreciate it! We are very excited to start our trip! Any more suggestions of interesting out of the way places to see, do and eat is greatly appreciated!!!
- kohldadExplorer IIIIf you take a day to ride around to Edisto Beach stop and eat at the Sea Cow.
On Wadmalaw Island, visit the Charleston Tea Plantation.
