Have you checked out Hunting Island SP outside of Beaufort, SC? It is right on the beach, has fishing on the river, has a pier, and surf fishing is usually pretty good. It has lots of kids, has a playground, lots of biking within the park, has a marsh area just outside the campground that has some good crabbing. The best thing about it.....it's a long way from Myrtle Beach!!
I HATE the crowds and all the circus atmosphere of Myrtle Beach. That's why we go to Hunting Island.
Before our 3rd child was born, we went down for Thanksgiving every year. (It was just too far with a toddler and a baby and an older one). There are lots of locals that use the park during this time, so they can direct you to some great local eateries.
We went crabbing one year on Wednesday, caught 18 crabs, so guess what was Thanksgiving dinner?
