- garyhauptExplorerYou can stay on the Mojave National Preserve. no fees. The second Mojave turn off along the way. If you take the second, just before Fenner..about 40 miles before Needles.

- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIILudlow.......there's a motel and service station
Probably can overnight in their parking lot.....or at the cafe
Kelbaker RD........small town of Saltus.
Park anywhere you want.
Either place is SAFE. - fly-boyExplorerJust find a spot off Kelbaker Road. It is about 1/2 way between Needles and Barstow. I really don't think anyone is going to bother you out there-
Just my opinion but most crooks/bad guys are lazy and aren't going to drive out into the desert to rob or bother someone. - mockturtleExplorer III think there may be a BLM area near Ludlow with dispersed camping but nothing else. If I were you, I'd go the extra 145 miles to Needles. Desert View is a nice RV park.

I need a place to park for the night between Barstow & Needles, say near Ludlow or Essex. Barstow is too short of a day and Needles too long. I'm driving a 40 ft. MH w/toad.
Any suggestions?
Many of those rest areas have crime problems so no over night. JMHO. Needles not the greatest area. My parents lived north of Needles, AZ side, for years. Where are you coming from and where are you going? I'm retired leo from so CA. They have a fairly nice rv park near the golf course in Needles that isn't too bad. I have stayed there and not bad. I wouldn't stop between unless just for a short rest. Some of those rest areas were actually closed because too much crime. Several years ago they had ham operator volunteers in rest areas reporting suspicious activities. Where the 40 & 15 separate there is a huge mcDonalds. Stay there, then drive to Blake Ranch RV Park about 10 miles east of Kingman. Or if going north stay in Bullhead City. - 2oldmanExplorer IIFrom a google maps search I think I'd be looking at Fenner.. looks like a big truck stop there, on the Goffs road just north of I-40.
