In Maine, don't miss Acadia National Park. It's been my favorite place for years. I always stay in the park campground, Blackwoods. You'll need reservations, if you can go without hookups. I haven't stayed at any of the other campground "resorts" so I can't vouch for any. I would also recommend heading north on route 1. I camped at Sunset Point Campground in Harrington a couple of years ago and enjoyed it very much. From there you can travel back down to Schoodic Point for a day, which is another part of Acadia. Anything north of Bar Harbor is much quieter. I'll be heading up that way in September as part of my retirement celebration trip.
In NY - the Finger Lakes area is very scenic. Wineries surround many of the lakes for those that like to wander and taste. Sampson State park has sites that will accommodate a FW, with electric hook-ups. From there you could head to Letchworth State park, a beautiful park, known as the Grand Canyon of the east.
Best of luck to you in retirement! Enjoy your trip.
