Well Busskipper, I see by your map that you still need to experience the Pacific North west - our favorite part of the US, So in the words of U. of Idaho's song - Here we have Idaho!
Lots of great suggestions above so pardon any duplication. US 95 from the south - Riggins ( 7 devils cafe if it is still there). 7 Devils area, Heaven's Gate Lookout. Into fly fishing? Try the Little Salmon River;
Pittsburgh Landing on the Snake R.; White Bird Hill - overlook will show you the old road - try it if you are brave. Once up onto the Camas Prairie (my wife grew up on the Camas Prairie) Grangeville is a neat old town. Winchester Lake State Prk is great. Then Winchester Grade puts you down to the Clearwater River. The Nez Perce tribal museum at the bottom of the hill is a great stop. Then US 12 intersects US 95. This road leads over the hill to Missoula MT by following the Middle Fork of the Ckearwater and then the Lochsa river (lots of trout here). At Lowell the Selway joins the Lochsa to form the Middle Fork. A short drive up the Selway are Selway Falls as well as an historic Ranger station.
Back at US 95 - west to Lewiston. The pulp/paper mill is an interesting tour. The Clearwater joins the Snake River. Continue on US 95 to Moscow - the Univ, of Idaho (my graduate degrees were earned here.
Northward on US 95 - lots of interesting small towns before you get to Couer d'Alene. And then Sandpoint (Lewis and Clark saw a big sandy point in the Pend O'Reille Lake. North to Boner's ferry and US 2 eat takes you back to Montana or westward to Spokane Washington.
Back at Sandpoint US 200 goes east along the Clark Fork River and on to US 93 north of Missoula MT where you go north to Glacier N.P.
About 20 miles east on Sandpoint you can turn south to Sam Owen cg (USFS) our long term favorite USFS campground ( we were camp hosts there for 2 summers!) I did my graduate research in the N. Idaho forests!
Enogh already. Feel free to ak (here or via PM) for any details or missing info. Did not mean to sound like a Chamber of Commerce but we do like Idaho and like to share it!
