Ideas on selling Thousand Trails membership

We bought a Thousand Trails national membership 3 yrs ago or so. We aren't traveling as much as we were and would like to sell the membership. I know posting anything for sale here is not allowed, but would like any input on platforms that would be good to market it. We got our money out of it in the first year, but don't want to keep up the membership with annual dues etc. Any organizations, magazines, blogs etc that you can think of would be appreciated.
  • There are a lot of platforms out there you can use for selling just about anything.  You should seriously consider Craig's List.  It is still viable and has a lot of users and a lot of person-to-person transactions occur there.  I believe you can list something like this on eBay, but you'll have eBay's commission based on the final value of the listing.  There's always Facebook Marketplace, which, if you are members of any of the various Facebook camping groups, will get you some visibility in those groups after you put the posting on Marketplace.

More than anything else, I would recommend having all your ducks in a row with Thousand Trails in terms of how you transfer the membership.  I wouldn't put anything up for sale until you have all the paperwork ready to make the transfer happen.

  • Escapees, a full timer focused organization has a memberships section on their rvnetwork.com forum site to post memberships for sale. Might have success there.
  • We had a 1000 trails membership for about 10 or 11 years. Got our use and tried to list it for sale, at that time there was either a $500 or $750 charge for the new buyer to pay. Plus the yearly fee that seemed to be going up. After a few weeks of trying, I listed it for free to anyone wanting to step up and pay those acquisition fees. A couple that were just starting out on the full time lifestyle said heck yea, and they got it. Things may be different now, but that is what we did.

Yup, just like with timeshares these kinds of ‘memberships’ are not worth squat on the resale market.

What are the implications if you just walk away? A lot of timeshares hold you hostage if you can't find someone to take it off your hands.

  • I have never owned pne but O know there is a lively business in buying/selling them online:
    Search engine page

I would not expect to get anything like what I paid for it.

We used ours a lot when we lived in CA and NV. We lived in CO for 2 years and didn't use it one time. We have been in GA since July and paid to stay at an RV place "affiliated" with Thousand Trails for 2 months while waiting to close on our home. I don't foresee us using it again for quite some time because we will be spending a lot of time and money on our new home LOL. Just got the yearly dues bill and almost died. $820😭
