- padredwNomadI have to admit that we are enjoying the cool days and nights in Colorado, but we will be returning next week to North East Texas.
Tyler State Park is one of our favorites, but reservations would be required even in the Summer heat. We live only 20 miles from Dainderfield State Park so we have never stayed there, but it would be another good choice. There is also Bob Sandlin State Park near Pittsburg and Mount Pleasant. Finally there is Caddo Lake State Park near Jefferson, a truly unique geographical setting.
There are two excellent COE parks on Lake 'o The Pines, between Jefferson and our home town of Ore City: Brushy Creek and Buckhorn.
Let me know if I can help with local information. I'll be home next week "enjoying" the heat and humidity. In the meantime, I am active online in Colorado. - DianneOKExplorerMoved from Fulltiming
- PawPaw_n_GramExplorerCheck any parks on lakes in Texas, Oklahoma or Arkansas. Some such as Lake Wright Patman near Texarkana and Lake O' the Pines have closed campgrounds or reduced campgrounds due to flooding.
Lake Wright Patman near Texarkana was badly flooded. The Texas State Park - Atlanta - on the lake is closed also.
Northeast Texas - Daingerfield SP is a nice CCC originated park, Bonham is another CCC originated park with a nice small lake and CG.
I personally find Lake Tawakoni, Eisenhower SP on Lake Texoma, the two parks on Cooper Lake or Bob Sandlin SP nothing special. Nice parks, but nothing special. (On Lake Texoma we prefer Burns West or Lakeside COE parks.)
Caddo Lake SP is a really unique park tucked in along the bayou. Might be too buggy and snakey for some folks.
As mentioned above - Beaver's Bend in Oklahoma is a real gem.
Personally, I'd also consider Crater of Diamonds SP in Arkansas. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIAugust in Texas would not be good. Why not Colorado where you can get much cooler?
- rexlionExplorerYou love heat? I go NORTH in summer, not south! ;)
I haven't met anyone yet who didn't like Beaver's Bend. It's within shoutin' distance of TX. :D - Stormy_EyesExplorerAre you set on Texas? We loved Beaver's Bend state Park in SE OK. Nothing against the Texas parks, I just wanted to mention our fav.
- noplace2ExplorerYou might get a better response if you'd ask the moderator to move this to the
"RV Parks, Campgrounds and Attractions" forum. - Mountain_MamaExplorerCheck RV park reviews around Texarkana, TX. There are some COE parks on Lake Wright Patman & some private RV parks in the area too. I believe we stayed at Clear Spring COE CG that was nice.
- RoyBExplorer IIAlways neat camping around the LAKE TEXOMA Denison TX area, Lots of camp grounds..
There is acouple of great state parks in OKLA on US70 just across the Texas line from there as well...
Get you a big ole WHAT-A-BURGER when you get into the Texas area... They great burgers... Making me hungary for one now haha...
